Resources for Remote Learning

We may not be able to work together in the same physical space, but the Upper School Library is still here to support you! How, you ask? Here are just a few of the ways:

Book recommendations;
Help locating and accessing eBooks, online articles, streaming videos, and other digital content;
Daily "open library" time;
Weekly book club meetings;
Research help, either via email, Google Hangout, or Google Chat.

The above list isn't exhaustive; if you need anything, even if it's just to chat, please reach out.

The library will be virtually open every day! You can "drop in" to chat with Erika and other library users from 9:00-9:55 every day via this link.

Erika is also available to "meet" by appointment during school hours.

OES eLibrary

OES has eBooks and audiobooks through Sora by Overdrive. You can access the OES's eBook and audiobook collection here. Not sure how this whole Sora thing works? Have a look at the introductory video below, and contact Erika with any questions you may have.

Audible Stories
Audible has made a collection of 300 audiobooks free for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis.
Multnomah County Library Card Sign-up
The library might be closed, but if you don't already have a library card you can still sign up for a temporary card that will allow you to access Multnomah County Library's vast eBook and audiobook collections via their super cute app, Libby.

Britannica Online
Encyclopaedia Britannica Online includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, Britannica Student Encyclopedia and the Britannica Book of the Year.
Oxford English Dictionary Online

World Book Online Reference Center
World Book Online is a suite of online research tools that includes encyclopedia articles, primary source collections, educator tools, student activities, pictures, audio, and video, complemented by current periodicals and related websites.

America's Historical Newspapers
Full-text database of early American newspapers from all 50 states published between 1690 and 1922.
Gale News
Provides access to authoritative, reliable digital content from magazines, journals, newspapers, and reference books appropriate for middle- and high-school students and covers a wide range of subjects, including science, history, and literature.
Gale Student Resources in Context via OSLIS
Student Resources In Context offers cross-curricular content aligned to national and state curriculum standards. JSTOR
JSTOR provides access to more than 10 million academic journal articles, books, and primary sources in 75 disciplines.
ProQuest Historical Newspapers
Searchable database that includes full-text articles from ten newspapers.
ProQuest Research Library
ProQuest Research Library provides one-stop access to thousands of full-text periodicals from one of the broadest, most inclusive general reference databases ProQuest has to offer. Search from a highly-respected, diversified mix of scholarly journals, professional and trade publications, and magazines covering over 150 subjects and topics.

ARTstor
Covers over 1.5 million high-quality images of art from around the world in a variety of formats and mediums, from ancient times to the present.
Lit Finder
LitFinder provides access to literary works and authors throughout history and includes more than 130,000 full-text poems and 650,000+ poetry citations, as well as short stories, speeches, and plays. The database also includes secondary materials like biographies, images, and more.
NoveList
NoveList is an electronic readers' advisory resource which assists fiction readers in finding new authors and titles. It includes titles, authors, publication information, subjects, book reviews, over 1200 theme-oriented booklists, 150 award lists and links to 1000 fiction related web sites.
